July 23 The Collector
February 06 MistakesMistakes happen, I understand that, Hopefully the one that impacted me can be corrected quickly. I collect Living Dead Dolls. I won an auction on eBay on 1/25 for a limited edition set that I don’t have yet. I’ve been anxiously awaiting the arrival of the dolls. The seller sent me the USPS tracking number on Wednesday, and had been keeping in touch via messages since the sale.. The package arrived today. Unfortunately, it wasn’t my dolls, but an item for someone in Korea that sold for 3 times what I paid for the set of dolls! I messaged the seller and am anxiously awaiting a reply. I suspect that my dolls are on the way to Korea and I will now be waiting weeks to see them – if ever. I’ve got plenty of time to file a dispute if needed, but I want the dolls, not a refund. August 06 The Day AfterWe had a great time yesterday, but the telling will have to wait for a little while longer. I'm going to try to get to bed very early today as I've had less than 8 hours of sleep over the past 2 days. We left the house at 4:30 Sunday morning and arrived home shortly after 10:30 at night. And then I was up until shortly after midnight getting the Sunday reporting done for work! March 05 Orchids
May 28 Garden Day Part OneWell, today was garden day, part one. We headed out the door a little before 11 am and drove to Lafayette Village to pick up the heirloom tomatoes that Pennie ordered. We then headed to a local garden center, but the selection was not the best, so we didn't get much at this stop. We headed down a long and windy road where another garden center was located along, but they were closed. We then stopped at another place we had been to in the past and picked up a flat of Sweet Potato vines in 4 inch pots. We were headed home at this point and stopped at a Dunkin' Donuts for Mocah Coolattas. They were the worst that we've ever had. The kids working there should all be fired...we felt as if we were interrupting them. The trip was then wrapped up at Glenwild Garden Center, close to home, where we picked up the rest of the plants for the porch planters and a few extras. They always have a nice selection there. They had pretty much all that we wanted! When we got home I put air conditioners in my office and the bedrooms, but only my office one is currently running. It was hot today and will be hotter tomorrow! I put the sun screen on the greenhouse and then headed to my parents' house. Mom was in the bedroom, as usual, but we had a nice chat. As I was leaving, my father told me he had gotten a letter from the IRS that he had a mistake on his taxes. Well, I looked it over and they are right, of course. On the worksheet where he was supposed to figure his taxable portion of the Social Security earnings, he stopped the worksheet way before the end, assuming that none was taxable. He now owes them $600. Ouch. I stopped at Lowes on the way home to get 3 pieces of 2x10 treated lumber for a raised bed for the tomatoes. I primed the one side of the wood and will assemble the box tomorrow. I think we'll need to get a whole load of dirt, though. Maybe I can load up some dirt from my parents' yard... March 17 Seed Starting Shelves Today we went to Home Depot and to Lowes to pick up the materials to build our seed starter shelf unit. We intended to stick with Home Depot, but their stock of 2x2 lumber was terrible. We did buy the rest of the materials there - shop lights, screws, bolts and washers, and a power strip. They did have treated 2x2 stuff still banded on the 3rd level up. The person working in the lumber department was less than helpful. When I asked if we could get 16 pieces of the lumber from that upper pallet, he mumbled something about needing a lift (there was a forklift parked less than 10 feet away) and a helper and he walked off. We waited a few minutes before I decided to pay for what we had and simply go to Lowes. They had both treated and untreated 2x2 stock. While the pieces were not all perfect, I'll be trimming enough that I figure we're going to be okay with the stuff we got.We also went to the specialist for Pennie's ear in the morning. She got a prescription for Prednisone and a nasal spray. She'll also be going back in about a month for allergy testing and to review the results of the MRI she will need to get, too. She had a hearing test and the loss in her bad ear is pretty significant. The doctor is most concerned with the fact that she is still suffering from some dizziness, which is the reason for the Prednisone. After the doctor and a trip to the pharmacy, we headed to the diner for lunch. Pennie wanted some corned beef for St. Patrick's Day and I had a burger. The Living Dead Dolls are now all in the little room the leads to the attic. I'll get them all the way upstairs in the near future. I also packed my Dale Jarrett stuff into two crates and put them away for now. We moved Pennie's gardening books to the basement bookcases and will be moving various other home repair and crafts books there, too. I took down and disassembled the shelves that had the Living Dead Dolls on them, saving one unit to put into the workroom under the kitchen after I clean that up. The basement looks much more open and airy now. If we can get the floor fixed, we'll be on our way to an excellent remodel. August 12 While we're on the subject of troubleshootingOh, a new category! I got a great deal on the Nightmare Before Christmas Limited Edition Cuckoo Clock by stumbling onto a set of auctions by Disney on eBay. The clock arrived earlier this week and I put it in our living room on Wednesday afternoon. It is way cool, but I still haven't gotten it adjusted exactly right. First it ran slow and I figured out that the pendulum needed to be adjusted upwards to speed it up. Unfortunately, the "ball" would slide back down the stick! If we turn the ball after sliding it into position it appears to stay put. I'm thinking I might want to apply some sort of sticky stuff or grit to the back of the pendulum's stick to get it to stop sliding down. I need to move it from the current location, though, since neither Pennie or I can see the time when passing through the living room! It sure sucks to get older and lose some eyesight capabilities!
