    Hungry, Hungry Hippo

Wasn't that a game from the late 1970's? I do believe so. I'm hungry right now, but that wil pass in a little while. It's almost time to go home and then I'll do the workout routine before dinner. I'm not famished and I had breakfast, as well as 2 cups of coffee and a liter of water today. It is just taking time to get used to eating less.

Pennie called earlier today to ask if she could go to Home Depot to buy herself a dump wagon like the one our neighbor has. She is doing lots of work in the garden and the wheelbarrow has a flat tire, plus it is rather large and unwieldy for our needs. I laughed when she asked if it could be her early Mother's Day present. I told her that she wasn't my mother and she reminded me that she's the "mother" to our zoo. <g> Of course you can go get a wagon!

There's no news on the front with my parents. They both seem to be doing well. Next Tuesday I'm supposed to take my father to the doctor in Morristown for a follow-up on his kidneys. He called them last week to change the appointment as he'd rather get a morning appointment, if possible, to avoid needing extra hours from Visiting Angels. Since Angie starts her summer session at school on Tuesday, she won't be working during the week starting next week. I haven't heard back from Kim at Visiting Angels and my father hasn't heard from the doctor's office yet. This should be interesting.

    Thai Ping / Heavenly Brew

Tonight I took Pennie out for her birthday  dinner at Thai Ping in Boonton. We love the place, but don't get there too often. We both had salmon today, but each dish was prepared differently. Don't ask me to remember the names, but I'll know them when I'm there again. We also had the appetizer sampler and that was really good! We were both well fed and really happy with the food. It was nice and spicy and very delicious! Topping off the dinner, we took a walk down the street to Heavenly Brew and each had a double cafe mocha with skim milk. We headed back to the car - Pennie's car - and back home to the dogs. Pennie's car rides really nice and is quite comfortable. I was pleasantly surprised by the handling, too. She wanted me to drive it as I hadn't even been in it yet.
Today was leaf mulching day and then food shopping. I started in our yard at about 11 and then headed to my parents' house to do theirs. I probably spent more time in the driveway than on the yard as there were tons of leaves all over the pavement! The mulcher attachment works really well on the mowers, since it chops the leaves down and makes them fit better in the lawnmower bag. I still had to make a million trips to the compost pile to empty the bag!
Mom came outside while I was mowing. It was a nice day today, with a high just over 60 degrees. She had fun pulling off pieces of the mums and planting them in the dirt. They won't grow, of course, but she thinks they will. She also came with my father and I to Shop Rite. She spent some time with me and some time with my father. When she's with my father, she gets frustratedd because he's pretty focused on his list. I like her to come with me as I can keep her occupied with a running commentary about the stuff on display.  She saw the nice woman in the mirror over the freezer case again and waved.

    Dinner

Pennie made the most awesome dinner tonight! Salmon, a baked potato and broccoli. It was so good and I ate way too much!

The day was uneventful except that my tooth is starting to hurt again. I think I need to call the dentist. Mom was still in good spirits, although there was much Dutch speaking today. It's a good thing that I still understand it as she's lapsing into it more and more.

    Recipe adventures and winners

Two days in a row Pennie has tried new recipes and both are "keepers" in that they both turned out great and were apparently fairly easy to make. She describes them in her blog for December 28th. Today's was very tasty, but yesterday's salmon was divine! I wonder if there's another treat in store for tomorrow evening before she heads South the visit her family for New Year's Eve.

Those who know me will recognize the absurdity of the fact that I just won the contest for the 4th time this year for football picks over at my nntp/email provider, Newsguy. They have been running a weekly contest open to all members to pick the winning team for all games that week, with a tiebreaker of guessing total points for the Monday night game. I don't watch football. I never follow football, but the contest is free and takes a few moments a week to reply to a post by editing the original to leave a list of randomly selected guesses. I always pick 42 as the total points for the final game because I like that number. (Hitchhiker's Guide To the Galaxy) Out of 16 weeks, I won first place 3 times and thrid place once. What are the odds of that?
